    Organizational Background

Central Urban Métis Federation (1993) Incorporated (CUMFI) was founded in 1993 and incorporated in 1994 by a group of Métis people living in the City of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to "ensure that the voice of the Métis people is heard at the municipal level within Saskatoon and district." CUMFI reorganized its non-profit status within the Saskatchewan Non-Profit Corporation Act, 1995 to register as a non-profit charitable organization, charitable number: 888571 7835 RR0001.

During the past 10 years, CUMFI has grown to nearly 6000 registered members. CUMFI has demonstrated to its members and stakeholders the professionalism and capabilities to successfully deliver preventative, intervention, and advocacy support programs and services to the urban Aboriginal people of Saskatoon, primarily the urban Métis people. CUMFI continues to develop collaborative partnerships with various agencies and support groups to avoid duplication of program and service delivery.

CUMFI is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, elected for a three-year term by its registered members.

In May 2000, CUMFI established a Community Advisory Committee to advise on and oversee the implementation of CUMFI's overall housing strategy.
